Passing Announcements: Dr Argenis Rodriguez who delivered so many of the babies born at the San Tome' hospital died last week in January 2007 in Caracas, Venezuela.
Found your San Tomé website on Saturday with my sister. I am Jeri (Rudes) Wilcox. My sister, Sally, and I grew up in Cabimas, MGO brats. Our dad Al Rudes was head of transportation there. Our mom was Lucy Rudes. I know we visited San Tomé on one of our long road trips, and we remember visiting a family with a cute little dog. Maybe a papillon? I can remember a black and white picture taken on the front steps of the house, holding the dog I mentioned, and I think I was about 8 or 9 years old. Sally and I located San Tomé on a map of Venezuela, and remembered a lot of the names enroute, and figure the trip must have been in the late 50's. Daddy retired in 1965, and we all moved to West Palm Beach. Daddy was the last jefe noteramericano for Mene Grande in the area when we moved to West Palm Beach. I lost touch with a lot of my friends, because so many dads had been transferred to Africa and the far East beforehand. Most of us were too young, or in boarding schools all over the world, and just didn't keep up with addresses and letters. Sally did a bit better than I did. Do you know anywhere we can order Savoy candy? Assuming they are still in business! When my husband was sent to Venezuela on a trip for Rockwell International in about 1978 (!!) he brought me back some Savoy, and told me he realized what I had been raving about all those years. He also got me some Venezuelan coffee, and was looked at pretty strangely when he went through customs on the way into Brazil to complete his trip! Please post this message, and let anyone who remembers the Rudes family to please reply, or post back. Thanks! PS My sister and I enjoyed singing Gloria'l bravo pueblo!!! also can be contacted at don_jeri@yahoo.com

Hello:
I saw this on your site, and it got my attention...
"I got an email from Anthony McSpadden that said his grand uncle was the foreman. His name was H.W. (Hooly or Don Julio as he was known as) McSpadden."
I don't think I know who Anthony McSpadden is (although I'd like to), but HW was Hoolian Wynn McSpadden, who was indeed the foreman at oficina no. 1 (the character Tony Roberts is based on him in the book by Miguel Otero Silva). Anyway, he went by 'Hooly' for short, and ended up naming his son 'Hooly'. That second Hooly is my dad, and Hoolian, aka Don Julio, is my grandfather.
