I don't have all of the details since I could not forward the email my parents received from Pat Harrell due to some technical difficulties, but her husband Bob passed away unexpectedly on the 3rd of April from a heart attack. He had been experiencing some chest pains, and was scheduled for surgery on the 4th.
Pat and Bob lived in San Tome for awhile and ended up leaving to go to the Middle East for a long time. Libya I believe. Submitted by: Tina Koon re: John and Julia Frezzo Your email address: koontina@yahoo.com The years you were in Venezuela: John, Julia, Patricia Frezzo from1940's to 1960's Your Other News: I am looking for anyone that may have kept in contact with my Godmother, Patricia or my Grandma and Pop-Pop Frezzo. They have all passed away as of November 2005. I have run across John's San Tome Terminal Club card and have enjoyed seeing the pictures of Venezuela that are posted here. I grew up with all of the stories they would share from living and working down there for 20+ years. John worked for Gulf oil. If anyone has any info, I'd sure like to communicate with you.
Hi Terry! I am Jean Laurenson Skillman (San Tome 1948 - 1956, Maracaibo briefly to late 1956). I was a kindergarten teacher/school secretary at the San Tome Staff School (1948-49), later after marriage I was the school secretary/full time substitute, and finally 1955-56 first grade teacher. My husband was Rhodes Skillman from Paris, KY, Accounting/Auditor (he died just 8 years sago). There are many wonderful and cherished memories of our lives in Venezuela. Our two oldest children, Greg and Laurie, began their education at the Staff School. We lived, briefly, in a 2 bedroom Parkersburg, then in a 'little L' - also briefly, then into an 'H' house. and finally into a wonderful house (on 13th?) facing the golf course (sand greens, lots of rocks). My kids have memories of the watertower (they were never to go there!). We were there when the club house was expanded, the theater built, the fantastic swimming pool put in with an ice cream bar! Also during that time the school kept expanding - and expanding! Some of the principals at the Staff School were Woody Wilson, Tom Hoffman and 'Mom" Shoup.
After all these years I keep in touch with quite a few San Tome friends from that era. We did attend a San Tome reunion at the Steinruck's guest ranch in Ingram, TX in the early 1990s where we happily renewed friendships with others. It was wonderful to see them all. Some of the people I have been in contact with are Betty Hayes Eistetter (Pasadena, CA - Tony died several years ago), sometimes Joe and Jean Holmes (Allentown, PA), Floyd Langsev (died 2002), Gus and Charlotte Nordin (Scottsdale, AZ), Charm (Cotton) and Jack O'Brien (San Jose, Costa Rica - saw them in CR two years ago!), Larry Ryan (talked to him yesterday! Donna died a few years ago), my brother in-law Frank Skillman (Ft. Myers, FL), Herb Volz (Bartlesville, OK - Jean died 2004), Bill Stevenson (Polson, MT - Chris died 1998 - and I haven't heard from him lately), Bob Steinruck (Ingram, TX - Carol died 2003), Jack and Pat Miller (Kerrville, Tx). In the early 1990s, we traveled with Jean and Herb Volz to Nerja, Spain and had fun seeing Laura Joyce Brossard-Scanferlato and her charming Nino at their perfect home overlooking the Mediterranean. Unfortunately they are both gone now - Laura Joyce in 1994 and Nino in 2002. I would love to have a map of 1950s San Tome. I had one years ago but it cannot be found. Should anyone be willing to copy theirs for me I would really appreciate it. Also have some pictures of interest.
Love seeing the Staff School pictures! It is fun to see a few of my kindergarten children in their graduation pictures. I taught an adorable and lovable group of five year olds - who are now about 63 years old!
I enjoy your website! - and would also enjoy hearing from anyone out there who has some of the same fond memories I have.
